The Arts and Social Transformation project presents
Show on the Road (SOTR)!
As a partnership between The Arts and Social Transformation project and cultural institutions, like Universities & Churches from Boston to Los Angeles, SOTR provides an opportunity for teens from the favellas of Rio de Janeiro to interface with American audiences - sharing, exploring, learning, and growing from one another.
SOTR takes shape as a cross-continental music, dance & acting performance tour. Traveling across the continental United States, the young artists in the group will perform Brazilian cultural songs, original compositions and dances, and some unique interpretations of both Brazilian and American songs. The presentation may also include a theatrical cultural commentary where appropriate. Whenever possible, the group would also like to offer a panel discussion on the challenges of living in favellas and for youth, in general, in Brazil.
SOTR will give audiences a first-hand taste of authentic Brazilian culture inspired by the creative spirit of young artists. The artists will also get a taste of America's culture, nurturing dreams that were unimaginable before.
SOTR will take the artists to a variety of venues, exercising their performative flexibility: giving them a tool for self-sustainment through the arts.
